LOVE LIFE COMMUNITY RADIO
Please let this communication serve as a testament to the importance of the GED Success Stories broadcast by the Love Life Community radio station for the citizens of Decatur and Macon County.
The willingness of the station to host our monthly broadcast of GED Success Stories starting about a year ago has been key to growing and improving the RCC GED/HSE programs. I have attempted to bring community awareness to the Richland Community College Office of Adult Education programs through more traditional radio stations with no success, whether due to scheduling difficulties or, more often, a lack of response on their part.
The annual Department of Economics and Finance report issued by Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville continually demonstrates the need for Adult Education services in Decatur and its surrounding areas.
I have finally found an outlet wherein Decatur residents can learn about our programs and promote the successes of those programs i.e. our GED graduates. (Example: 107.9 FM sets up at each GED/HSE graduation ceremony for students to “shout out” to family and friends that cannot attend the event.) Study after study in education illustrates the “digital divide” and the findings of the lack of digital access holds true for many of Decatur area members. Many of our students only have digital/internet access to information and news via a public Wi-Fi network. By supporting a local radio station that does not require internet access, we can continue to provide much needed information and inspiration to the members of the community that are most impacted by our programs.
I hope to continue working with this station throughout 2020 and beyond and to expand the opportunities of our programs for the people of Decatur. Unfortunately, this will only be possible if the station can remain operational with your funding and support.
